Resource Management vs Conservation/Cultural Management

What is the current thinking on the Stehekin Valley road (which was washed out some years ago)? I think the NPS was not interested in rebuilding the road (part of which would take wilderness area) but could it be rebuilt in exchange for adding more land to the NCNP?

The Forest Service still doesn't want to "lose" lands to the national parks -- Mt St Helen's is a more recent example of an extraordinary landscape which has stayed with the USFS despite being a volcanic area similar to Mount Rainier and Mt. Lassen. Mt. Baker, too.

is any of these parks at risk of disappearing because the politics, or other reason?

What is the dynamic between the NPS and USFS now?

Do you see the initial creation ( with conservation and local involvement) of North Cascades as a possible template for creating future parks? Are there lessons we could use to help future conservation and creation of public lands?

Closing roads (not repairing roads) to limit use is a great way to limit use - such as Carbon Road in mount Rainier
