Were some people concerned abut telling this story?
Unknown Speaker
01:23:37 777 024 565Password: 2S62Sukim leroy: When the soldiers came to Bainbridge you mentioned they knew exactly who and where they resided. That happened on the evening of the 7th of Dec correct? Did the files with their information follow them to the camps or what happened to those files?

Thank you for this! I have been to the national park sight at Manzinar which added to my understanding. I look forward to visiting the Bainbridge Island Memorial. I love this example of ordinary people standing up for what they decide for themselves is right.

Where did the interned go after the war if they didn't return to their hometowns?

Mr. Moriwaki, thank you so much for a thought-provoking and timely presentation. I did not know of Bainbridge Island’s status as the first place to remove American citizens to concentration camps. I did know about the Woodwards and their staunch advocacy for their friends and neighbors. Your point about stigmatizing people in this fraught moment is well taken. I visited Heart Mountain last fall and was struck by how little physical evidence remains of this dark chapter in our history. Thank you again for sharing this story. I look forward to visiting the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial again soon.

Thank you for sharing this story with us. Excellent. Where will others be available to find this video? My sister-in-law teaches this story in her middle school class each year. I think she'd love to share this video with her class.

My father spent the war in Tule Lake. He came to America in 1919 at the age of 19. In the 1960's our family received our green card. But even with a green card, my parents always lived in fear of being deported. Can you address the post traumatic issues the Japanese felt long after the war?
